CONTRAROS, GEORGE J.

TUCSON, Ariz. — George J. Contraros, 91, formerly of Chester, N.H., died Dec. 7, 2008.

He was born in Lowell, Mass., on Aug. 6, 1917, to James and Stella Contraros.

He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps as master sergeant and participated in the battle at Guadalcanal. He also served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 3.

In 1944 he met and married Lola Kever while both were serving in the military. He made a career in the antique and wood working business.

He is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Lola.

He is also predeceased by his parents and sisters, Bessie Contraros, Toni Conides, Sophie Roux and Helen Sotiriou.

Family includes his two sons, James Contraros and his wife, Gayle, of Antrim, N.H., and Charles Contraros of Tucson; daughter Barbara and her husband, John Burke, of East Andover, N.H.; three grandsons, Curtis Contraros of Tucson, Jesse Burke of Houston, and Nathan Burke of East Andover.

A spring funeral will take place in Manchester, N.H.
