CONKLIN, LEROY J.

Services for LeRoy Jay Conklin, 84, Rochester, formerly of Logansport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Gundrum Funeral Home. He died at 12:15 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 30, 1923, in Logansport, he was the son of Schuyler and Edna Mae Reeves Conklin. His first marriage was in 1945 in San Diego to Dorothy Riffe, who preceded in death. His second marriage was on June 23, 1961, in Logansport, to Dorothy R. Hill, who preceded in death April 23, 1995. His third marriage was on Aug. 23, 2003, in Rochester, to Ocelia Emigh Bailey, who survives.

He retired in 1985 as a carpenter for Steinberger Construction Inc. He was a member of Logansport Eagles Lodge 323, member and former governor of Moose Lodge 232 and member of American Legion Post 418. LeRoy was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

Also surviving are daughter, Cheryl Whittenburger and husband, Gene, Mexico; sons, Ronald LeRoy Conklin and wife, Sandra, Dennis Conklin and wife, Alisha, and Greg Conklin and wife, Dixie, all of Peru; sister, Nina James, Logansport; Ocelias nephew, Rick Lindgren, Rochester; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Bessie Sterrett, and one brother, Lloyd Conklin.

Dr. Horace Smith will officiate. Burial, with full military graveside rites, will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
