CHVASTEK, FRANK F.

Frank F. Chaste [Chvastek], 84 passed away on Monday, Nov. 22, 2004.

A Cleveland native, Mr. Chaste moved to the Akron area in 1999. In 1975 he retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years. He was proud of receiving three special commedations for his service there. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and fought with the 1st Marine Raider Battalion. Awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received on New Georgia Island in the Solomon Islands, Frank also received four major campaign stars. His memberships included the D.A.V. Chapter 35, and the V.F.W. No. 349.

Mr. Chaste was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sophie (Tlachac) Chvastek; brother, Joseph Ladd Chaste; sisters, Mary Chvastek, Theresa Bland, and Angela Schlesinger; niece, Beverly Logosz; and nephew, Ted Skowronski. His survivors include sister, Josephine (Andrew) Johnson; nieces, Mary Ann (Bill) Hill, Nora Jane (Michael) Kazor, Virginia Johnson, Mary (John) Sandor, Elizabeth Skowronski, Margaret (Ed) Reid; nephews, Alan Schlesinger, Terrance Schlesinger, John (Linda) Bland, Thomas (Donna) Bland, and John Logosz; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Calling hours will be on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley-Ciriello & Carr Fairlawn Chapel (39 S. Miller Rd.), and on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Village at St. Edward, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park.

The family wishes to acknowledge the special care given by Dr. Armao, as well as the staffs at Akron City Hospital Fifth Floor, VNS Hospice, and the Village at St. Edward.
