    The Navy list of 287 casualties today included 170 dead, 90 wounded and 27 missing. Of these, three Allegheny County men are wounded, also six district men are dead. Dead [April 2, 1945]: Marine Lt. Thad N. Dodds, Langeloth.

  • DOYLE, PHILIP D.

    Mr. and Mrs. Philip J. Doyle have received a telegram from the War Department notifying them of the death [April 2, 1945] of their eldest son, Sergeant Philip D. Doyle of Co. L, 3rd Bn, 4th Marines, 6th Division in the South Pacific. The sympathy of the entire county is extended to the family.

    No details were given of the death [July 26, 1944] of Pfc. John M. Doss, U.S. Marine Corps, son of Mrs. Flo C. Doss of 1211-A Fourteenth, in an announcement made Friday by the Navy Department.

  • DANIELS, NELSON D.

    The Navy Department today announced 322 casualties of the U.S. naval forces not heretofore released on Navy casualty lists. Alabamians on this were listed as follows: Pvt. Nelson D. Daniels, USMCR, dead [July 23, 1944]. Mother, Mrs. Mary Wickware, Bessemer.

    WASHINGTON—(AP)—Names of eight Michigan men were in a casualty list announced by the Navy Department today. The list included 124 dead, 92 wounded and 41 missing. The Michigan casualties: Pfc. Harry R. Dale, Marine Corps, dead [June 15, 1944], Pontiac.

    Five men from this vicinity are listed on the Navy casualty list released today. The list covers the period from Oct. 16 to Oct. 31, inclusive. Pfc. Julian K. Dobson, U.S. Marine Corps, is also listed as dead [September 28, 1942]. He was the brother of Mrs. Phoebe Watson, formerly of 161 West Street, Leominster.

  • DISMUKES, ALVIN M.

    Sgt. Alvin M. Dismukes, U.S. Marine Corps, was killed in action [August 27, 1942] in the Pacific war zone, his wife, Mrs. Theresa Dismukes of Charleston was notified Saturday. Sgt. Dismukes had served 18 years in the Marines, and had been stationed at the Naval Ordnance plant at South Charleston four different times.
