CARTER, JOHN E.

MILTON, NH – John E. Carter, Sr., age 83, a resident of Milton, NH for the past 16 years, died Friday, December 28, 2007 at his home.

He was the husband of Blanche E. (Hardy) Carter, with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 14, 2007.

Born in Tewksbury on August 4, 1924, he was the son of the late John P. and Margaret F. (Doucette) Carter.

Mr. Carter was raised in Tewksbury, attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from Tewksbury High School in 1942.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served during World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Carter was employed for 50 years as a union crane operator by Local # 4 of Boston. Prior to his retirement, he worked for the Julian Construction Company of Watertown.

According to his family, he was an avid woodsman, hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, John E. Carter, Jr. and his wife Constance of Wilmington, William K. Carter of Milton, NH and Nancy E. Carter of Tewksbury; two sisters, Pauline Bagby of Tewksbury and Priscilla Edgecomb of Billerica; three brothers, Charles R. Carter and his wife Mildred of Englewood, FL, Frank E. Carter and his wife Betty and Richard Carter and his wife Marcia of Kennebunk, ME; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Carter was the brother of the late Helen I. Gray and Daniel A. Carter.

Calling hours Wednesday, Jan. 2nd, from 2-7 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, immediately followed by funeral services to be held at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the New England Paralyzed Veterans of America, 1600 Providence Hwy., # 101R, Walpole, MA 02081 are suggested.
