CALIGIURI, FRANK D.

Frank D. Caligiuri, 79, of Des Moines died Friday [March 14, 2003] at Mercy Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 17 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Born to Dominick and Rosa Caligiuri on September 18, 1923, Frank was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. He owned and operated Goodwin Tile and Brick Company and as a restaurateur operated the Silver Swan, Star Café, Kelly’s Inn and King Tut’s. Frank served his country during World War II as a Marine Corps Raider in the South Pacific. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Bellizzi-MacRae American Legion Post 659 and the Society of Italian Americans. Frank enjoyed golf, bowling and gardening.

He is survived by his wife Arlene; sons Gerald, Frank Jr. and Paul; a daughter Rosalee DiMaio; his stepchildren Gary and Robert Schroeder, Anthony and Julie Ann Ligouri and Meade Copland; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; his sisters Mary Campbell and Joanne Johnson and his brothers Charles and Anthony. Frank was preceded in death by his wife Amy and daughters Marilyn and Linda; his brother James and two sisters, Frances Friend and Theresa Caligiuri.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., American Diabetes Assoc., Italian American Cultural Center, Bellizzi-MacRae American Legion or St. Anthony’s Foundation.

Visitation will be Sunday 2 to 7 p.m. with a 6:30 Rosary at Brooks Funeral Care Tonini Chapel.
