BRANDT, JAY R.
Jay Brandt, age 89, of 1393 L Avenue, died at his home on March 30, 2011. His body has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be Saturday, April 2, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with David Borsos officiating. Burial of his cremains will be in the Quincy Cemetery, southwest of Boone.
Jay was born November 28, 1921, in Des Moines, the son of James and Vera (Blythe) Brandt. He graduated from East High School in Des Moines in January of 1940. On June 1, 1952, Jay married Wanda Rose in Grand Junction. Wanda died in June of 1989. In July of 1990, Jay married Kathryn Hodges.
Jay farmed in Marcy Township, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Boone Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Jay enjoyed fishing, dancing, woodworking, listening to Glenn Miller music, and conversation. He also enjoyed driving his Checker cars.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, son-in-law Richard Bosma, and an only cousin Dan Scott. He is survived by two sons, James and wife Christi of Boone and Robert and wife Sandy of Folsom, California, two daughters, Rexanne Kendall and husband Kenny of Ogden and Janet Bosma of Ogden; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8. On Saturday, friends may call at the Kingdom Hall from 9 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion.
