Public memorial service will be held at the Locust Street Evangelical Church at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Aug. 29, honoring Pvt. William G. Bovenschulte, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bovenschulte of 504 Second Avenue. Private Bovenschulte, who would have been 20 years old on Sunday, died in action July 11, 1943, in the South Pacific area, while serving as a member of the First Marine Raider Battalion. The Rev. James W. Davis, pastor of the Locust Street Church, will speak of the life of the young Marine, as known to his friends and family here, in home and church. Coach Donas Dischinger of Garfield High School, where the young man was a student before his induction, and where he was a star football and basketball player, will speak of his life in the school. “The Life of a Marine” will be the subject of a talk presented by a representative of the United States Marine Corps. Music will be in charge of Mrs. L. C. Mann and Mrs. Fred Head, and John Vaughan, a high school classmate of Private Bovenschulte, will sound taps.
