BODELL, THOMAS R.

Citations for gallantry, signed by President Harry S. Truman and Gen. Matthew B. Ridgeway, were read Saturday at services conducted for Sgt. Thomas Richard Bodell, at 36 E. 7th South.

Sergeant Bodell, 26, decorated combat Marine who saw action in two wars, was killed in Korea June 10, 1951, while serving with the First Marine Division.

A son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis G. Bodell, 1483 Major St., he was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star medals for gallantry in action, as well as unit citations for combat at Chosin Reservoir, Korea, and in the Okinawa campaign in World War II. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded on Okinawa.

Laudatory letters written by President Truman, General Ridgeway, Senator Wallace F. Bennett, Platoon Leader Walter F. Murray and various Marine chaplains and commanding officers were read during the funeral services.

The services were conducted by LeGrande Dowdle, bishop of Jefferson Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Burial was in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
