BARNES, WILTON M.
Wilton “Barney” Barnes, of 3931 Gillette Dr., died Tuesday, May 26, 1992, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Robeson County, N.C., June 19, 1924, the son of the late Julius Norman and Lala Mae Scott Barnes.
Mr. Barnes retired as a captain from Piedmont Airlines. Prior to that he had served with the N.C. Highway Patrol, and during World War II he served with the U.S. Marine Corps Raiders.
He was a member of St. John’s Lodge #1 A.F.&A.M., Scottish and York Rite Bodies, the Sudan Temple, past president of the Silver Eagles, an active member of the QB and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Detschman Barnes of the home; a daughter, Brenda Barnes Eberhardt of Toccoa, Ga.; a son, Michael Wilton Barnes of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Barnes Stephens of Wilmington and Mrs. Margie Barnes Stanley of Asheville, N.C.; a brother, Newton C. Barnes of Raleigh; and two grandchildren, Kellie and Dusten.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 28, 1992, at 1 p.m. in Andrews Market Street Chapel by Dr. Richard Graf. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens, with Masonic Rites by St. John’s Lodge.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Piedmont Retired Pilots Assn.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Andrews Market Street Chapel.
