ANDERSON, GORDON W.

Gordon W. Anderson, 78, of Frederic, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Region’s Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, surrounded by his family.

He was born February 15, 1922 in Shell Lake. He was the son of Herman and Pearl Anderson. He served his country as a Raider in the First Marine [Raider] Battalion during World War II. He was a decorated sergeant who received two Purple Hearts. Gordon was married on June 5, 1948 in the Heart Lake Church to Elverna Zimmer.

They began their married life as farmers. Most recently he owned and operated his own heating and air conditioning company in Luck, and retired after several years of service for the State Housing Authority Apartments in Frederic. His volunteer services to the community were numerous. Gordon was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and a proud member of American Legion Post 249.

He is survived by his wife, Elverna; his children, Betty (Mike) Soine of Lakeland, Minnesota, Bob (Linda Cannon) Anderson of Stillwater, Minnesota, Mary Ann (Richard) Stone of Chandler, Arizona, Gerald Anderson of Siren, James Anderson of Siren, Patty (Ronnie) Fredericks of Frederic, Richard Anderson of Frederic, Linda (Jeff) Clausen of Frederic, and Karen (Steve) Edgell of Centuria; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold (Deloris) Anderson of Cumberland; two sisters, Carol (Abner) Odden of Cumberland, and Lily (Alfred) Nelson of Laguna Hills, California; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, 4 p.m. June 26, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with Pastor Rich Hutchison officiating. Pallbearers were his sons-in-law, and brother-in-law, Steve Zimmer.
