AIELLO, SANDY
Sandy Aiello, 78, of Roscoe, died Saturday, June 22, 1996, in the Veterans Hospital, Highland Drive, Pittsburgh.
Born July 2, 1917, in Monessen, he was the son of the late Luige and Marietta Garofalo Aiello.
Mr. Aiello was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Roscoe; the Monessen American Legion Post; Charleroi Elks and Mon Valley Leathernecks Association.
He served with the U.S. Marine Corps from January 1942 to January 1946 in battles in the Solomon Islands and action against the Japanese in New Georgia.
He retired in 1980 after 44 years of service at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., Monessen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jennie Caruso and Florence Pingator.
Surviving are his wife, June Ruse Aiello; one daughter, Sharon June Zurosky of San Francisco, Calif.; one grandson, Edward Lee Zurosky on San Francisco; one stepson, James D. Hixon of Dunellen, N.J.; two step-grandchildren, James D. Hixon Jr. and Cynthia June Hixon, both of Dunellen, N.J.; and two brothers, Paul Aiello of New Eagle and Ernest Aiello of Philadelphia.
Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ed Melenyzer Funeral Homes Inc., Roscoe.
