TAYLOR, PAUL J.
Paul John Taylor, 89, a former Marine and active Catholic, died April 24, 2008, at his home in Corona.
He was born Sept. 24, 1918, in Denver.
Mr. Taylor lived in Chino Hills for 30 years, and moved to his daughter’s house in Corona last year.
He served in the Marine Corps for 30 years, earning the rank of master sergeant. During World War II, he served in the Pacific islands. He also served in the Korean War.
He was stationed in China and numerous locations in the United States, before retiring in 1969.
Mr. Taylor, and his wife, Kay, moved to Chino Hills in 1976. They joined St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Chino, and helped establish St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Chino Hills. Mrs. Taylor was the first secretary of the church and Mr. Taylor was a member of Knights of Columbus and a hospitality minister. He and his wife were members of the church’s Married Couples Club.
Mr. Taylor was a crossing guard for more than 10 years at various elementary schools in Chino and Chino Hills.
He was known for his sense of humor and his stories about the Marines. He wore his red Semper Fi hat on a regular basis.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Katherine Taylor of Corona; daughters, Diana Gentry of Corona and Paula Rosengarten of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; son, John Taylor of North Shore; sister, Dorothy Linebarger of Seneca, Mo.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, followed by burial at Riverside National Cemetery.
