JURGENS, AUGUST G.
George Jurgens, 77, of Winn Street, a retired self-employed building contractor, died of heart failure Wednesday [March 16, 1994] at Methodist Medical Center.
Services are 11 a.m. today at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home with burial in Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland.
Mr. Jurgens, a Ridgeland native, lived in the metro area all his life. He was a third generation chrysanthemum grower. He retired in 1982. He was a former alderman-at-large for Ridgeland. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran, serving in the Carlson Raiders. He was a Mason with Pearl Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite and the Wahabi Temple, where he was president of the Shrine Patrol. He was a member of Leatherneck Club and Marine Corps League. When he became ill, he was a Veterans Affairs Volunteer Services officer. He was a life member of the Iwo Jima Veterans 2000 Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6473. He was second commander of Hovious Grayson Post 112, American Legion.
Survivors: wife, Louise; daughters, Georgann J. Keenum of Brandon and Linda L. Pilgrim of Ridgeland; son, Kim Jurgens of Jackson; mother, Freida B. Jurgens of Ridgeland; sisters, Katherine M. Jurgens of Ridgeland and Doris Mae Yandell of Canton; brother, Robert Jurgens of Ridgeland; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Mary Ella Winstead Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church of Ridgeland.
