SPURLOCK, DONALD J.

YREKA – Don Spurlock, postmaster here since 1951, died at San Francisco Veterans Hospital Saturday morning [October 22, 1960]. He was taken there September 21.

Spurlock, 37, was born in Nampa, Idaho. The family moved to Yreka in 1933. He was graduated from Yreka High School and attended Yuba Junior College, Marysville, and the University of California.

During World War II Spurlock served in the Marine Corps with the famed Carlson’s Raiders under James Roosevelt.

Until he became ill a year ago, he was very active locally with the Red Cross.

He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Lodge here.

Spurlock was noted for his woodcarving hobby.

He leaves the widow, Earline; a son, Gregory; a daughter, Gayle; his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Spurlock, and a sister, Mrs. Naomi Payne, all of Yreka.

Girdner’s Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Services are pending.
