WILLIAMS, JOHN L.

John L. (Jabby) Williams, of 131 Miller St., Bangor, former Bangor High School head football and baseball coach, died Wednesday night [May 22, 1968] at home. He was 55.

He was a teacher at Bangor Junior High School for many years, teaching problems of democracy.

He graduated from Bangor High School in 1931, from Moravian College in 1935, and received his master’s degree from Lehigh University in 1957. He played varsity football and baseball at Bangor High and Moravian. He also played semi-pro baseball in Bangor for a number of years.

During World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the Marines and saw action in the Pacific Theater.

He served four years on Bangor Borough Council and was a Democratic committeeman and Secretary of the Bangor Chamber of Commerce.

He organized the Bangor student aid fund and during the past year taught bridge in the adult evening classes of the Bangor schools.

He was the husband of Ellen (Jones) Williams.
