WHEELER, JOHN M.
DODDSVILLE – Services for John M. Wheeler, 58, retired farmer, will be conducted today at 4 p.m. at McNeil Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Max W. Holleyman of Roundaway Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Wheeler died Monday [November 9, 1981] at the South Sunflower Hospital in Indianola.
He was born June 23, 1923 in Quitman County. He served in the First Marine Raiders during World War II and was a member of Roundaway Baptist Church. He lived in the Sabina community until a year ago when he moved to Doddsville.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Callie Mae Wheeler; five sons, John M. Wheeler Jr. of Webb, Hiram Michael Wheeler, Richard Webster Wheeler and Mickey Lynn Wheeler, all of Doddsville, and Harold Dalton Wheeler of Lambert; two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Goss of Webb and Mrs. Lucy Woods of Clarksdale; seven grandchildren; one brother, Mark Houston Wheeler of New Jersey; and three sisters, Ollie Mae Wheeler of Virginia, Minn., Lillian Turner of Clarksdale and Lavelle Halvorson of Marshall, Minn.
