DOZIER, JOSEPH S.

Joseph S. Dozier, Jr., died at 2 p.m. Monday [September 19, 1960] in M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston after being seriously ill with cancer for the past 3½ months. Services were held from the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Bro. Frank Fort officiated. Pallbearers were Earl Fairbanks, Hardy Fairbanks, William Rheman, Geo. Rheman, Jr., Milton Dozier and Warren Dozier.

Joe was born Sept. 27, 1922 in Goosecreek, Texas. His father, Joseph S. Dozier, Sr., died when he was a baby 5 months old, on March 1, 1923. His mother, the former Ollie Rheman, then moved back to Brookshire with her children. Joe has always called Brookshire his home. He attended the Katy schools and joined the Marines during World War II, spending 14 months in the service.

His brother, Wilbert, also in the service during the second World War, died in action in Europe on March 1, 1944 at 19 years of age.

Joe was a machinist by trade. He was a member of the Berean Baptist Church in Houston Heights. He has made his home in Sacramento, Cal. For the past year. On Dec. 18, 1954, he was married to Ann Etta Fairbanks.

Survivors include his widow, Ann Etta; his daughter, Sherry Louise; his sons, Louis and Donald Thomas Dozier; his mother, Mrs. Ollie Brookshire; his sister, Mrs. Louis Halbison (Josephine); his brother, Ernest Maxwell Dozier; a number of cousins and other relatives including his aunts, Mrs. Florence Wells and Mrs. Jeanette Howard; and his uncles, Geo Rheman, C. J. Rheman, C. A. Rheman, Ed Dozier, Sr., Elmer Dozier, Albert Dozier, Bill Dozier, David Dozier and Lyle Dozier.
