PATRICK, CHARLES E.

Charles E. “Pat” Patrick, 86, of Louisville, died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home in Cynthiana, KY.

Captain Patrick was born March 6, 1919 in Salyersville, Magoffin County, KY, the son of Judge Menifee Patrick and Virginia Stratton Patrick. He was retired from the United States Marine Corps, which he served for 20 years, and from the University of California at San Diego, where he worked in the physical education department. He taught golf classes and was the coach of the university’s golf team. Captain Patrick was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. During World War II he served with the Amphibious Reconnaissance Platoon, Amphibious Force Pacific, participating in landings in the Gilbert, Marshall and Mariana Islands, including Saipan, Tinian, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was awarded both the Silver Star and Bronze Star Medals. During the Korean War Capt. Patrick served with the First Marine Division and took part in the Inchon landings and operations around the Chosin Reservoir.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his 18 brothers and sisters and his wife of 47 years, Florine Riffe Patrick.

He is survived by his son, Ronald S. Patrick (Rosemary) of Alpine, CA; his daughter, Joan Patrick Moore of Louisville; five granddaughters; four great-grandsons; his beloved companion and dear friend, Joan C. Berry of Louisville; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

In accordance with his wishes, Capt. Patrick’s body was donated to the University of Louisville’s Medical School. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
