BURK, LEONARD J.

Leonard J. Burk, 36, of Bridle Path, Bethlehem R. 2, died Tuesday [January 1, 1957] in Allentown Osteopathic Hospital.

Burk, an ex-Marine, was a Purple Heart veteran of 23 battles in the Solomon Islands, during the Pacific campaign in World War II. He had a presidential and an admiral’s citation.

Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of Mrs. Jennie (Cressman) Burk and the late Robert Burk. He was a member of the Church of the Manger, Bethlehem. He was a carpenter for Fox Contractors, Bethlehem.

Surviving are his wife, Verna A. (Rohrbach) Burk; a son, William, Des Moines, Iowa; three stepsons, Richard, at home, and Ronald and Robert, Bethlehem, and a stepdaughter, Gail, at home; five brothers, Delos R., Jack D., and Robert G. Burk, Bethlehem; Richard M., Allentown, and James L., Rensselaer, N.Y.; a sister, Betty Jane Burk, Allentown, and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Steyers Funeral Home, 500 Linden St., Bethlehem.
