PUMPELLY, PAUL L.

Rev. Paul LeRoy Pumpelly, 86, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2009 in a local hospital.

He was born in Hominy, OK and lived in Lake Charles since 1961. He was a pastor and member of Wesleyan Holiness Bible Church. He was a corporal and served in WWII Marines as a 4th Battalion Raider. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received in the first invasion of Guam, Navy Unit Commendations, and the Medal of Good Conduct. He participated in the operations against enemy forces on Emirau Island and Guam.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hebert Pumpelly of Lake Charles; 3 sons, James Pumpelly of Lake Charles, Vance Pumpelly of Lake Charles, Christopher Miles Pumpelly of Lake Charles; daughter, Prebble Bonnett of Orlando, FL; brothers, Bob Pumpelly of Lake Charles, Charles Pumpelly of Houston, TX; sister, Marie Arnett of Westlake, Lois Hoyler of Lake Charles, Sylvia Dunn of Lake Charles; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Arno.

His funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Rev. Richard Gremillion and Rev. Pat Courtney will officiate. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. until time of service on Thursday.
