STRICKLAND, JOHN M.

Cpl. John M. Strickland of Wakulla County has been reported killed in action [October 9, 1942] with the United States Marines, his family has been notified by the Navy Department.

Strickland is the first Wakulla County man to be reported killed in action since the start of the war.

Born and raised in Wakulla County, Strickland enlisted in the Marines three years ago and has been overseas six months. No details of his death have been announced by Navy authorities.

Strickland is survived by his widow, Mrs. Bernice Strickland, an 11-month-old son, John Preston Strickland, whom he never saw, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Strickland and four brothers and four sisters. One of Strickland’s brothers is in the United States Army.
