STACKPOLE, GERALD B.

Joseph B. Stackpole of this city today received a telegram from Lieut. Gen. Holcomb, commander of the U.S. Marines at Washington, D.C., announcing the death of his son, Gunnery Sergeant Gerald B. Stackpole. The brief message stated that he was killed in action [September 14, 1942] in the performance of his duty. Sgt. Stackpole, who as a boy was a member of the telegraph carrier force, had been a member of the U.S. Marines continuously since 1924. He was also a veteran of World War I and had been stationed in several Asiatic countries.
