NICKEL, EUGENE W.

Mrs. Doris M. Henry, R. 1, Fortville, received a telegram from the Navy Department stating that her nephew, Pfc. Eugene Willis Nickel, was killed in action May 21, 1945, on Okinawa.

Pfc. Nickel was a former resident of the Fortville community and a member of the Fortville graduating class of 1943. He entered the Marine Corps in February, 1943, and left for overseas duty in June, 1943. He saw action in Bougainville, Saipan and Guam, prior to Okinawa. No details have been learned to date.
