MALONE, LESTER W.
Lester William “Bill” Malone, age 81, of Mattoon, formerly of Olney, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home.
Memorial services celebrating his life will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Eugene Black officiating. No visitation is planned.
Bill was born March 7, 1920 in Mattoon, a son of William and Gladys Sheeks Malone. He married Jean Stevens on January 31, 1948. She survives. Other survivors include, two brothers, Gene Lee Malone of Chicago, Charles Malone and his wife Joann of Mattoon; four sisters, Betty Houpt of Terre Haute, Indiana, Dorothy Wallace and husband George and Nancy Malone, all of Mattoon, Martha Crackel and husband George of Myrtle Beach, South Caroolina; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Malone.
Mr. Malone was a World War II U.S. Marine veteran serving from 1942 to 1946. He retired in 1982 after working thirty-five years for C.I.P.S. as a lineman in Olney. Bill was a life member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion of Olney. He was a 32 degree Mason and past patron of the Order of Eastern Star, both of Olney. Bill was also a member of the Richland Country Club of Olney. He and his wife, Jean, lived in Olney for fifty years before returning to Mattoon.
