Nine men from Philadelphia and vicinity died in action against the enemy between Aug. 31 and Sept. 6.

The Navy’s official casualty list for that period, announced yesterday, also disclosed four missing from this area and five wounded.

Navy and Marine Corps personnel were included in the list.

Besides those listed in the immediate Philadelphia vicinity, the list of dead in the metropolitan area includes:

Sergeant Gordon J. Giffels [August 7, 1942], Marine Corps, son of Mrs. Rose H. Giffels, Stroudsburg.
