DAKIN, WILLIAM L.
William L. Dakin, age 83, died Saturday, March 11, 2006. Survived by his wife of 56 years, Delphine Dakin; children, Sheila Dakin, Bill T. Dakin, Denise (Tim) Green and Diane (Gary) Clevenger; grandchildren, Kristen Fildey and Sarah Clevenger; brother, Joseph Dakin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 3 brothers. William “Bill” grew up in Lansing. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Lansing and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after Pearl Harbor. Bill served his country for 4 years in WWII at Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal. He also was called back to service for Korea. Bill attended the University of Detroit. He retired from GM purchasing department after 37 years in 1982. He then worked as a volunteer for St. Thomas Aquinas and Sparrow Hospital for many years. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2006, 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas, 955 Alton, East Lansing. The Rite of Committal will be held in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions to Hospice Services, Sparrow Foundation, P.O.
