WILEY, WILLIAM A.
HADDAM — William A. Wiley Sr., a former first selectman, died unexpectedly Sunday [December 6, 1981] at his home.
Wiley, 61, of Hubbard Road in the Higganum section, served as the Republican first selectman from 1964 to 1969 and from 1974 to 1975.
He was also the former proprietor of Higganum Hardware and was an estimator for Middletown Plate Glass Co. at the time of his death.
He was a member of Granite Lodge 119, AF&AM, Elks Lodge 771, the Lions Club and the Marine Corps League.
Wiley is survived by his wife, Betty Jones Wiley; his mother, Louise Arnold Wiley of Rocky Hill; two sons, William A. Wiley Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M., and Stephen R. Wiley of Norwalk; two daughters, Nancy Wiley of Albuquerque, N.M., and Elizabeth Wiley of Cromwell; two brothers, Arnold Wiley of Auburn, Mass., and Dr. John Wiley of Stockton, Calif.; a sister, Beverly Haddad of Willimantic; and three grandchildren.
Wiley, a World War II Marine Corps veteran, will be given a military funeral Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Higganum Congregational Church. Interment will be in Higganum-Burr Cemetery. Calling hours at the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, will be today from 7 to 9 p.m.
