WALKER, WILLIAM K.
William Walker, 42, of Coppell, Tex., who was critically injured late Thursday night in a traffic accident at Allen Ave. and Ford St., died at 2:31 p.m. yesterday [July 31, 1965] in Confederate Memorial Hospital.
The death was the third traffic fatality in Shreveport this year as compared to nine at the same time last year.
Walker suffered a broken left leg, a crushed chest and head injuries when his pickup truck was struck in the left side by a car driven by David E. Richardson, 18, of 2617 Olive St., Bossier City. Richardson underwent surgery in Schumpert Hospital yesterday.
Patrolmen G. G. Farrar and E. C. Heap said Walker was driving west on Ford Street and Richardson was going north on Allen Avenue when the accident occurred.
James Turk, 15, of Wells, Tex., a passenger in the Walker car, was resting well last night at Shumpert Hospital and not seriously injured.
Three passengers in the Richardson car also were slightly injured. Robert L. Taylor, 20, of 4090 Mimosa St., Bossier City, was given emergency treatment at Confederate Memorial Hospital following the accident and was released.
Arden L. Waggonner, 19, of Benton, and Betty Carter, 19, of the YMCA in Shreveport, were admitted to Schumpert Hospital for X-ray observation.
The body was released to the Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Shreveport and will be sent to Fort Worth, Tex., for services and burial.
