WRIGHT, EDWARD R.
OAKLEY – Edward R. “Sarge” Wright, 59, of 25 Wilmington Ave., died Wednesday [December 27, 1983] in an Asheville hospital.
A native of Greenville, S.C., and an Ashville resident since 1928, he was a son of the late John M. and Flora Chapman Wright. He was the former owner of Park Dairy Bar.
He was a member of the Biltmore Masonic Lodge and had retired from the Marine Corps with 20 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Beatrice Smith Wright; two sons, Robert E. and John R. Wright of Asheville; a daughter, Kathleen Wright of the home; a brother, James Wright of Asheville; four sisters, Mary Whittier of Charleston, S.C., and Nellie Baker, Jackie Maxwell and Mildred Wesley of Asheville; and three granddaughters.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Williams Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Glen Gunter will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with graveside rites by Biltmore Masonic Lodge No. 446, AF&AM. The lodge will open at 1 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
