MCHONE, SPURGEON L.

Spurgeon Lafett “Bud” McHone Jr., 62, of 1 Lamb Ave., Asheville, died Wednesday [October 21, 1987] at his residence.

A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired as superintendent of sanitation department from the City of Asheville. He was a member of Salvation Army, VFW Post No. 891 and Democratic Club. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a former president of Salvation Army Men’s Club. He was a former member of Keep Asheville Beautiful Committee and was a son of the late Spurgeon Lafett and Lola Murray McHone Sr.

Surviving are his wife, Claudene Eleanor Scott McHone; a daughter, Diane Dobson of Asheville; three sons, Ronnie, Larry and Gary McHone, all of Asheville; three sisters, Eloise Ingle and Lois McHone of Asheville and Betty Hargus of Fairview; a brother, Cecil T. McHone of Asheville; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The Rev. Elbert Jenkins will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
