IRONS, NORMAN J.
Norman J. Irons, 73, of Springport, died Friday, June 27, 1997, in an auto accident in Clare.
He was born Aug. 31, 1924 in Bloomingdale to Clarence and Ada Irons.
He spent most of his life in Springport. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps [2nd] Raider Battalion for five years.
He was employed by Union Steel Products, and for 24 years by Corning Glass until it closed. He also drove a truck.
He married Eleanor Harmon on Jan. 17, 1947, in Albion. She survives.
He also is survived by a daughter, Carol Nelson of Albion; sons, Richard Irons of San Antonio, Tex.; and Gary Irons of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; three step-granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Boball of Florida; and a brother, Freeman Irons of Gobles.
Community involvement, hobbies: Former member of the V.F.W. in Springport and a member of St. John Catholic Church.
Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel, the Rev. Michael Glockner officiating.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery.
