HELFER, MORRIS E.

Morris Helfer, 71, of Port Monmouth, Middletown Township, died Saturday [August 19, 1989] at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank.

Mr. Helfer, also known as “Jim,” was a heavy equipment operator for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825 for 23 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2179, Port Monmouth, the Elks Lodge 2179, Belford section of Middletown, and the Sandy Hook Veterans Association, and a communicant of St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Middletown.

Born in Piscataway Township, he lived most of his life in Port Monmouth.

Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Martin; a son, Martin N., Port Monmouth; a daughter, Beth-Ann Stegeland, North Middletown, and a granddaughter.

John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, is in charge of arrangements.
