DISALVIA, NAZARIO J.
Nazario John DiSalvia, 73, a retired electrician and World War II veteran, died Thursday [November 25, 1993].
Mr. DiSalvia came to the United States from Italy with his family in 1929 when he was 9 years old. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and was a member of the elite Edson Raiders Battalion, which was among the first Marine battalions to land at Guadalcanal and Tulagi, family members said.
In 1937, Mr. DiSalvia joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, an environmental organization established by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Mr. DiSalvia was a member of Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 38 years, and a member of the Knights of Columbus for 25 years. He was past president of the Holy Name Society at his church, St. Thomas Aquinas.
Survivors: his wife, Josephine; daughters, Geraldine Ianieri and Joanne Peak; son, Nazario John Jr.; two brothers; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: viewing, 10 a.m. today, Victor Baldi Funeral Home, 1331 S. Broad St.; Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m., St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 17th and Morris Sts., South Philadelphia.
