STEWART, JOHN P.

Funeral services for Sgt. John Perry Stewart of Phoenix, who was killed in action on Okinawa, May 10, 1945, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday from Memory Chapel of A. L. Moore and Sons Mortuary.

The Rev. J. W. Hadley, pastor of the Central Methodist Episcopal Church, will officiate. Services will be in charge of Luke-Greenway Post No. 1, American Legion. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.

Sergeant Stewart was born January 23, 1922, at Lamesa, Tex., and lived in Phoenix 13 years prior to enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps late in 1941. He served with the [Sixth] Marine Division. He attended the Monroe School and Phoenix Union High School

Sergeant Stewart was an amateur boxer and was a runner-up in the Golden Gloves matches here in 1940 and 1941.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Stewart, 435 West Watkins Road. Three sisters, Mrs. Roy Parsley and Mrs. Dorothy Leed Stewart, both of Fresno, Calif.; and Miss Viola Stewart, Phoenix; and five brothers, G. L., Monroe, Denton, Franklin D., and Dale, all of Phoenix, also survive.
