LOPER, ROLAND H.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, for Mr. Roland H. Loper, 75, of Hattiesburg, who died unexpectedly April 13, 1994, at his residence.

The Rev. Jim Matheny and the Rev. Nelson Walley will officiate.Interment will be in Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg.

Pallbearers will be Pat Ryan, Ed Hegwood, Willie Macko, Jack Land, Terry Lambert, and Everett Harris.

A native of Clarke County, Mr. Loper had lived in Hattiesburg since 1938. He received a master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and was inducted into the USMM Club. During World War II he served in the U.S. Marine Raiders and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired in 1984 after 36 years as a principal and coach in the Forrest County School System. From 1972 until 1980, he was principal of the Stone County Junior High School.

Mr. Loper was a member of the Oak Grove/North Forrest Lions Club and a member of the Hattiesburg Masonic Lodge 397 and the Scottish Rites. For a number of years, he was a scoutmaster for the Rawls Springs and Petal Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Forrest County Election Commission and the Heritage United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Loper of Hattiesburg; a daughter, Patty Ward of Hattiesburg; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Pokey and Shane Stanford of Raleigh, N.C.; four brothers, Malcolm Loper, James R. Loper, and William J. Loper, all of Pachuta, and Wallace Loper of Columbus; and two sisters, Edith Lowery and Tommie Ulmer, both of Pachuta.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. today at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.
