OCEANSIDE, Calif., April 27 (AP)—Shot in the head with his own carbine, S/Sgt. Oscar B. Terry, 32, of Austin, Tex., Was found dead in a company storeroom here Wednesday [April 25, 1951], the Marine Corps disclosed Friday.
A board of investigation has been convened. It was not immediately determined whether the shooting was accidental, but it was apparent the bullet was self-inflicted, a Marine statement said.
A former reporter for a news service in Texas, Terry returned to active duty last August. His wife, Alice, and daughter, Iris, 7, live in Austin.
