JOHNSON, GLENN W.

Glenn “Trapper” W. Johnson, 80, of Kingston, Ill., died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in DeKalb.

Born April 27, 1921, near Tuscola, he was the son of Otis and Emma (Trueblood) Johnson. He resided in the home of Fred and Emma Meyer in Marengo for many years. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1942 and became a member of the Marine Raiders. He married Nova M. Hegberg in Marengo on April 23, 1947. He loved being outdoors, and to fish and trap. He worked long and happy hours in his garden. He worked as a cement finisher for several contractors and retired after many years with Walker Construction.

He is survived by his wife, Nova Johnson of Kingston; six sons, Douglas (Kathleen) Johnson of Steward, Randall Johnson of Chicago, Larry (Phyllis) Johnson of Genoa, Richard (Phyllis) Johnson of Newark, Keith Johnson of Charlotte, N.C. and Brad (Sandra) Johnson of Germany; two daughters, Kristie Johnson of Genoa and Jana (Randy) Haeffner of Sycamore; 11 grandchildren, Duane (Shani) Johnson, Brian (Bonnie) Johnson, Shanna Johnson, Travis, Casey and Kristopher Johnson, Daniel and Jillian Grehn, Richard, Jonathan and Lindsay Slack; four step-grandchildren, Daniel and David Haeffner, Mike and Jeff Dahle; three great-grandchildren, Jeffery Johnson, Douglas and Brooke Johnson; a step-great-grandson, Larry Barnes; and a sister, Mary (Art) Shumard of West Lafayette, Ind.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ross K. Johnson; three brothers, Loren, Jim and Eugene Johnson; and five sisters, Lucy Johnson, Martha Largent, Alma Smith, Dorothy Faulkner and Lois Hite.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 18, at Cooper-Quiram Funeral Home. Interment will be at Kingston Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, June 17, at the funeral home.
