SCHOEPPEL, FREDERICK O.

A letter from Lt. Col. James Roosevelt, son of President Roosevelt, to Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Schoeppel, 732 North Fourteenth Street, East St. Louis, told them that their son, Pvt. Frederick Schoeppel Jr., 22, who was killed in action last July [1, 1943] while a member of a Marine Raider unit, is believed to be buried on New Georgia Island. Col. Roosevelt’s letter contained a picture of the grave, which had been given him by a member of the unit who did not state specifically whether it was taken in New Georgia.
