FORNOF, BILLY B.

Pfc. Billy Fornof, USMC, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fornof, Sr., of 1103 Calvin Avenue, was killed in action May 20 [1945], while serving with the 4th Marine…Regiment on Okinawa, the War Department informed his parents in a telegram received late Wednesday afternoon.

Private Fornof was attending East Nashville High School at the time of his enlistment in the Marine Corps in October, 1942. He trained at Parris Island, S.C., and went overseas in December, 1942.

A participant in the fight for the Munda air strip on his 18th birthday, Private Fornof also was on Guam and Saipan before his transfer to the crack 4th [Regiment].

In addition to his parents he is survived by a brother, Rm 2/c Arthur Fornof, Jr., on a submarine in the Pacific.
