HEDINGER, CHARLES J.
Charles J. Hedinger, 64, of 21 S. Clinton St., City of Poughkeepsie, died Wednesday [September 19, 1979] at his home. Mr. Hedinger was employed by DeLaval Separator Co., Poughkeepsie, for 16 years, before his retirement in 1977. He was a commercial artist for Whitman Publishing Co. before enlisting in the Marines in 1942.
A lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, Mr. Hedinger was born here on Jan. 26, 1915, the son of Edwin P. Hedinger and Mary A. Corbally. He was married to the former Gloria F. Cronk, who survives.
A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, Mr. Hedinger served four years with the Marine Raider Battalion in the South Pacific. As a commercial artist, Mr. Hedinger produced a book of cartoons called “Bless Em All” for the members of his battalion and contributed to many Marine Corps publications.
Mr. Hedinger was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Poughkeepsie.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Patricia A. Kirtland of Hyde Park; two grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home Inc., 39 S. Hamilton St., City of Poughkeepsie. Prayers will be offered at 8 p.m.
Services will be held on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Mary’s Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
