KLOTZ, ROBERT J.

KETTERING Robert J. Klotz, who was involved in reconnaissance at Guadalcanal during World War II, died Saturday [March 22, 1997] at his home here. He was 73.

A Marine Raider, he served as an elite scout in four major campaigns and received three Purple Hearts.

Mr. Klotz was a graduate of Stivers High School in Dayton, Ohio, and played football at the University of Dayton.

A former Woodlawn resident, Mr. Klotz coached Knothole baseball and basketball. His C league team was the first in Woodlawn to win a city championship.

For more than 40 years, he worked in sales and advertising and was an active member of the VFW.

Surviving are three sons, Robert P. Klotz of Sayler Park, J. Martin Klotz of North Carolina, and J. Todd Klotz of Hyde Park; a daughter, Mary Patricia Austing of Lebanon; two sisters, Orlas King and Jean Mitchell, both of Dayton; a brother, Frank Klotz of Dayton; and 11 grandchildren.

Services have been held. Burial was at Dayton National Cemetery.
