HOLLADAY, JOHN C.

Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Holladay, formerly of Florence, who until recently lived just beyond Flat Points, and are now making their home at Pinewood, Route 2, received official notice yesterday from the War Department that their son, Sergeant John Charlton Holladay, of the United States Marines, has been killed in action [July 20, 1943]. The notification did not state when nor where.

Sgt. Holladay entered the service on January 9, 1942. He was sent overseas soon after volunteering and had not been back home since that time. He took part in the Battle of The Solomons, but for some time past his parents have not known in what area he served.

He had two brothers, James H. Holladay of Florence and Aviation Cadet Dan Holladay of the United States Naval Air Corps, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Sgt. Holladay was a graduate of the Florence High School, class of 1930. Before entering the service he was employed for several years by the Dorothy Green Florist Shop.
