JEFFRIES, JAMES E.

James E. Jeffries of Hamilton, Keokuk barber, who is believed to have wounded himself in the head with a pistol in his home a couple of weeks ago, died Friday afternoon [June 23, 1967] in Blessing Hospital at Quincy where he had been a patient since.

The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Nieters Chapel at Fort Madison with the Rev. Ernest Braida officiating. Burial will be in the Soldiers’ Circle at Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison.

The Rosary will be recited Sunday at 8:30 p.m. in the Nieters Chapel.

Born Aug. 19, 1923, in Fort Madison, he was a barber there for 16 years before coming to Keokuk two years ago to operate a shop in the Hotel Iowa.

During World War II he served in the Marine Corps.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Theresa Jeffries of Fort Madison and two sons, Kevin, 12, and Jay, 18, of Fort Madison. His father, O. M. Jeffries, preceded him in death.
