HUNT, DONALD E.
Donald Hunt, 76, of Berwick Road North, Syracuse, N.Y., died Saturday, Jan. 10 [1998] at Crouse Irving Hospital. A native of Watertown, N.Y., he resided in Syracuse for many years.
Born May 10, 1921, he was a son of the late Charles and Bernice Hull Hunt.
He was a veteran of the Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946. He was one of the original members of the First Marine Raider Battalion and participated in the battles of Tulagi, Guadalcanal, the Florida Islands and New Georgia Island.
He attended the Marine Corps Photography School in Noumea, New Caledonia, where he was trained as both a combat and public relations photographer. He returned to the United States in 1944 and became staff photographer for the Camp LeJeune Newspaper.
He returned overseas as a Marine Corps photographer attached to Island Command in Guam. After he was discharged, he became chief photographer for the Bethlehem Globe Times newspaper in Bethlehem.
He returned to Syracuse in 1960 and was a staff photographer for Varden Studios from which he retired.
He is survived by a daughter, Marianne Wolf of Hauppauge; a son, Donald Richard of Allentown; and two granddaughters.
Burial was in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. There will be no calling hours or other services.
The Frasier-Shepardson Funeral Home, 1217 North Salina St., Syracuse, was in charge of arrangements.
