HANDFORD, LAWRENCE E.
Lawrence E. “Larry” Handford died peacefully at his home in Meridian on Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, after an extended illness.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, Meridian (Meridian Road & Chinden). The Rev. Timothy M. Ritchey will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date. Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian.
Larry was born Sept. 20, 1923, at Denton, Mont., to Robert and Goldie Fullbright Handford. He graduated from Valier High School, Valier, Mont., in 1942. He joined the Marines in January 1943, serving with the Marine Raiders in the South Pacific, and was discharged in November 1945. Larry later joined the Navy as an electronics repairman and served during the Korean War. After his military service Mr. Handford followed construction, working mainly in tunnels and with TBMs (tunnel boring machines) both in the United States and overseas.
Larry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary of Meridian; two daughters from a previous marriage, Sandra Dodson and Laura Tucker, both of California; five sons, Robert of Battle Mountain, Nev., Carl (Benita) of Big Timber, Mont., James (Linda) of Tuolumne, Calif.,, Elmer of Meridian, Charles (Carol) of Greenville, S.C.; a brother, Dan of Montana; seven grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one son; and daughter-in-law, Suzi Handford.
