ALLEN, DEAN G.
Dean G. Allen, 69, of Spokane, Washington, formerly of Nampa, died Monday, June 28, 1993, in Nampa. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 1993, at the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa. Rev. Kenneth Britt of Nampa will officiate. Concluding services and interment will follow on Saturday, July 3, 1993, in Spokane.
Dean G. Allen was born on April [10], 1924, at Lemoyne, Nebraska, to Florence Mary and Clarence Elmer Allen. In 1927 the family moved to Riverside, California. They then moved to the Boise Valley a year later, where they lived on several different farms throughout the valley. Dean attended various grade schools in the area and graduated from Nampa High School.
When World War II started on December 7, 1941, Dean joined the United States Marine Corps on December 8, 1941. He took his boot camp training with the Marines in San Diego. He left for the South Pacific with the 22nd Marines in June of 1942 where he soon joined the 3rd Marine Raiders. He was wounded in November of 1943 and received the Purple Heart. He returned to the U.S. and after a long stay in the hospital, he was stationed at the Naval Supply Depot in Oakland and later to Mare Island, CA. He was honorably discharged from Mare Island in January of 1946.
After his discharge, he started driving trucks in California. In 1947 he returned to Nampa where he was self-employed as a truck driver. In January of 1949 he moved to Spokane, WA, and worked as a telegraph operator for the S.P.&S. Railroad. He also worked for the Silver Loaf Baking Co. as a transport driver. He married Ruth E. Bond in October of 1958 in Coeur d’Alene and they made their home in Spokane. In June of 1963 he went to work as a tanker driver for Tri-State Oil Co. In April of 1983 he started driving for Lee & Eastes Tank Lines. He retired in April of 1986 from James J. Williams Co. and has resided in Spokane since.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, the Teamsters Union for 36 years with over 3 million miles, a life member of the D.A.V., V.F.W., and a very active member of the Marine Corps League. In June of 1993 he received the Marine of the Year Award. He was very involved with Toys for Tots. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Eagles Lodge, the U.S. Marine Raider Association and the Retired Teamsters Association.
Dean is survived by his wife, Ruth of Spokane; 4 daughters, Ruth E. Rose, Cleone A. Gregg and Bobbie Marie Baze, all of Spokane, and Eva P. Weaver, Klamath River, California; 2 sons, Dean M. Allen and Ricky E. Allen, both of Spokane; 2 brothers, Dale Allen, Nampa, and Joe Allen, Boise; 2 aunts, Nora Wiles and Iva Doner, both of Nampa; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 1 sister.
