KONOPKA, CHARLES
Charles Konopka, 28, of 21 Second Street, Larksville, who served during the war with the First Marine Raiders and was wounded on Iwo Jima and at Guadalcanal, died yesterday morning [November 23, 1947] at 11:30 at the home of a brother, Benjamin Konopka of Collinsville, Conn..
A member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Konopka since his discharge has lived with both his sister, Mrs. Corey Shaw, at the Larksville address and the brother in Connecticut.
He was one of four brothers, two sisters and two nephews who served in the armed forces.
Funeral services will be held in Collinsville and the body will be returned here for burial in the family plot in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Plymouth Township.
Besides the sister and brother, with whom he resided, he leaves these other sisters and brothers: Frances, New York City; Mrs. Bernadine Spatz, Larksville; Peter, Larksville; Walter, Larksville; John, and Mrs. Edward Zionce, both of Collinsville.
