THOMPSON, WILLIAM F.

LEXINGTON – Rev. William Franklin Thompson, 70, of 3002 Pauline Lane died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1993, at his home.

He was born July 6, 1923, in DuBois, Pa. to David Eugene and Phoebe Harris Thompson. He was a graduate of Piedmont Bible College and High Point College. Rev. Thompson retired from the U.S. Marine Corps with 24 years service. He served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was with the Jimmy Roosevelt’s Fourth Marine Raider [Battalion] and the Sixth Marine Division on Okinawa. For 22 years he pastored Methodist churches and was an instructor at Forsyth Tech, Davidson Community College and Guilford Tech in Jamestown. He was a member of Union Ridge United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Yvonne Thompson.

Surviving are his wife, Eloise Windsor Thompson of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Karen) Brown of Pfafftown, Mrs. Michael (Kathy) Coltrane of Lexington; one son, Craig Walter of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Joey Hilton, Scott Beauchamp, Nealise Beauchamp, Jami White, and Brent Coltrane. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Esther Wachob, Helen Byrne, Edith Gordon all of Pennsylvania, and Janet Dowling of Florida.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Chapel with the Rev. Jim Raines and the Rev. Charles Morton officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Union Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel 7-9 tonight.
