IVERS, JAMES

ELDRED – James Ivers, 70, died at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 1993, at his residence.

A member of the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II serving with Carlson’s Raiders, he was a member of the Eldred American Legion. Ivers was a member of the boards of the State Bank of Eldred, where he served as head cashier for a number of years, and the Carrollton Community School District and Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The son of the late William and Cressie (Drake) Ivers, he was born Sept. 14, 1922, in Eldred.

Ivers and the former Edith “Bobby” Ray were married on Nov. 25, 1945, in Eldred. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, David Ivers of DeKalb, Bruce Ivers of New Canton and Eric Ivers of Carrollton; a daughter, Sue Riechmann of Eldred; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Audrey Rabe of Glassford.

Three brothers, Ward, Earl and Kilby Ivers, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until time of services at 2 p.m. at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton.

Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Eldred with the U.S. Marine Corps conducting military rites.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or American Heart Association.
